Empowering educational therapists to find innovative, scientifically researched, engaging, and culturally competent ways to work with their clients is always my goal when teaching.

KARA SCANLON, BCET, holds a Master's Degree in Education with a certificate in Educational Therapy from Holy Names University. She is a Board Certified Educational Therapist through the Association of Educational Therapists, as well as on their board. A graduate of the University of San Francisco, she holds degrees in both Physics and Math. As the former director of the HNU Math Lab, she has two decades of experience working with students in math and science. Her private practice started in 2013, where she has honed her specialty to middle schoolers, high schoolers, college students, and adults who are neurodivergent in STEM and executive functioning. She helped over 200 educational therapists go virtual during the first months of the pandemic to ensure that their clients had continued services during the lockdown. She dedicated 15 years to learning the Making Math Real methodology to support her clients using Universal Design and multisensory structured instruction. She loves helping math come to life—from algebra to calculus—for students after she helps them unpack their math anxiety, academic trauma, or shame due to their diagnoses or neurodivergence.
